Colleagues at Selco Builders Warehouse are set to take part in a three-day fundraising challenge spanning the length of England, as part of an initiative aimed at raising money for Cancer Research UK and the company’s Community Heroes programme.
The event, titled “Race Across Selco”, will see senior leadership teams travel from the company’s northernmost branch in York to its southernmost location in Exeter between 27 and 29 April.
The challenge will involve four teams made up of senior staff, each attempting to complete the route using a limited budget and a mix of transport methods.

Teams will begin with £100 per person and are expected to navigate across the country while securing support and donations along the way.
The route will cover hundreds of miles and incorporate multiple Selco branches as checkpoints.
At each location, participants will complete tasks and fundraising activities designed to engage staff and customers, with the aim of increasing donations throughout the journey.
Fundraising target set at £100,000 for charity partners
The initiative has a target of raising £100,000, adding to more than £600,000 already generated by Selco for its charity partnerships.
Activities planned along the route include timed construction-style challenges, such as building furniture, reflecting the company’s links to the construction and trade sectors.

Frank Elkins, CEO at Selco Builders Warehouse, said: “I’m super excited to be taking part in ‘Race Across Selco’. Not only is it an exciting challenge to raise money for an important charity, but it’s also a reflection of Selco at its core – always willing to go the extra mile for the right reasons. It won’t be easy, but that’s the point – we want to push ourselves to raise money for two amazing causes: Cancer Research UK and our 2025 Community Heroes winners.
“I’m incredibly proud of the team for stepping up to take on this challenge. It’s a true test of resilience, teamwork and determination, and it perfectly reflects the spirit we see across Selco every day, people pulling together, pushing themselves, and doing something meaningful to support others.”
The event is being supported by Bond It as headline sponsor.
Anupam Kumar, Group CEO at Bond It, said: “Innovation and passion aren’t just found in our products: they are found in the people who drive our industry forward. The team’s commitment to ‘Race Across Selco’ is a testament to the consistency and heart that defines Selco. As the proud Headline Sponsor of the event, Bond It is thrilled to support the team as they push their limits for Cancer Research UK and the Community Heroes winners. This challenge perfectly reflects the stronger bond we share as partners – coming together to make a genuine impact where it matters most. We’re behind you every mile of the way!”
Construction sector continues to support charity and community initiatives
The challenge reflects a wider trend across the construction supply chain, where merchants, contractors and manufacturers are increasingly involved in fundraising and community-focused initiatives alongside core business activity.
With participation from senior leadership and engagement across its branch network, the event highlights how construction sector organisations are using their scale and reach to support charitable causes while strengthening links with local communities.
