We are excited to announce the launch of our first-ever Apprenticeship Prospectus, crafted to provide comprehensive resources and support to our members.

At the BMF we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to reach their full potential and apprenticeship programmes provide our members with an excellent opportunity to develop and retain existing staff as well as to attract new staff wanting to start in our sector.

Apprenticeships allow individuals to grow, propose innovative ideas, gain an accredited qualification, build a network and gain the knowledge, skills, behaviours and confidence to progress within their careers.

The prospectus is drafted specifically for BMF members who want to learn more about how apprenticeships work and which course options we can help you with.

Some key facts about Apprenticeships:
Who can do an apprenticeship?

  • You can apply for an apprenticeship if you’re:
  • 16 or older
  • Not in full-time education or on any other Government funded courses
  • Live in England

Apprenticeships are for:

  • Colleagues who are looking for development/career progression
  • Those changing role/development
  • New recruits to understand the company and role through a structured training plan

Who can get funding for an apprenticeship?
When hiring an apprentice, or developing your team, you must ensure the candidate:

  • Has the right to work in the UK
  • Has lived in the UK for at least three years
  • Works at least 50% of their working hours in England
  • Has not previously studied the complete course content
  • Is aged 16 or over (at the start of the academic year)
  • Is not in full-time education or any other government funded courses

This list is not extensive, and it is the responsibility of the hiring company to check the Government site for up-to-date funding rules

What levels of apprenticeship are available?
Level 2 Intermediate – equivalent to 5 GCSE’s (grade 4 and above)
Level 3 Advanced – equivalent to 2 x A-levels
Level 4 Higher – equivalent to HNC/HND
Level 5 Higher – equivalent to Foundation Degree
Level 6 Degree – equivalent to Bachelors’ Degree
Level 7 Degree – equivalent to Master’s Degree

The BMF supports the full enrolment process, managing the funding system and sourcing new programmes.
