Richard Jones, our BMF Regional Manager for the South West & South Wales, has decided to retire as of 3rd September 2024 after more than 11 years with the BMF. Richard joined the BMF as a regional manager in February 2013, originally covering Anglia, London & South East, South West & South Wales.

Richard was born and raised in Weston-Super-Mare and has spent his career in the building materials sector. He worked for Weston-Super-Mare based construction supplies company, Slocombe & Butcher for over 18 years, leaving as Managing Director in 2004 before joining the Western Builders Merchants Buying Society in Exeter for nearly 3 years, again as MD, before taking up his role with the BMF.

Richard was asked what he most enjoyed about his role with the BMF:
”Building and maintaining long-term relationships with members of the BMF and helping them by providing learning and developing opportunities for staff members.

It is a privilege to watch people of all ages and backgrounds engage in training and grow in confidence which in turn gives them an opportunity to reach their full, and sometimes unseen, potential!”

We also found out that as a youngster he had some decent footballing prowess and once played a game at Plymouth Argyle’s ground (Home Park), although he is now a massive fan of West Ham United in the Premier League.

Richard was the BMF’s Regional Manager of the Year in 2023 and has been instrumental in growing the Membership and Engagement with members in the South West and South Wales and will be much missed by his colleagues and Members.
