Builders’ merchant MKM Building Supplies is set to open its 141st UK branch in Swindon on 2 March 2026, marking its sixth new branch launch of the year and creating 17 jobs in the local construction supply chain.
The new depot will serve trade professionals and homeowners across Swindon and surrounding areas, strengthening materials availability for residential, commercial and small-scale building projects.
Expansion of Construction Supply Network in Wiltshire
The Swindon branch will be led by Branch Directors Damien Lockey and Scott Woodward, both local to the area and with more than 45 years of combined merchanting experience.
The opening forms part of MKM’s continued expansion across the UK builders’ merchant sector, increasing regional access to building materials including timber, insulation, landscaping products and specialist interiors.
Damien said:
“For us, it’s about doing things properly. We’ve been given the freedom to build our dream team, shape the branch around local needs and deliver the kind of service people in Swindon deserve. That’s what MKM is all about.”
Scott added:
“We’re both local lads, so this isn’t just another branch opening. We know the area, we know the trades and we know what good service looks like. Having the ability to make decisions locally means we can react quickly and genuinely look after customers.”
Product Offering to Support Trade and Residential Projects
The Swindon site will stock a full range of building materials, with particular focus on landscaping supplies, timber, insulation and decorating products. Facilities will include paint mixing services and a dedicated kitchens and bathrooms showroom supported by a specialist team.
According to the company, the branch has been structured to reflect local construction demand, combining stock availability with on-site product knowledge.
Damien explained: “We’ve built a team with serious experience and real product knowledge. Customers will notice the difference straight away. Whether it’s landscaping, kitchens, timber or insulation, we’ve got people who know their stuff and want to help.”
The wider branch team brings more than 250 years of combined merchanting experience. Ongoing supplier training is planned to ensure knowledge remains aligned with changing construction products and regulations.
Delivery Services to Support Site Schedules
Free local delivery will be available to trade and retail customers, with same-day delivery offered where possible. The branch leadership states that operational flexibility and communication will be prioritised to minimise disruption to site programmes.
Scott said:
“Trade customers want straightforward service, reliable stock and people who know what they’re talking about. That’s what we’re building here. Customers can expect a warm welcome, a free hot drink and real expertise every time they come through the door.”
Damien added: “The difference with MKM is the support we get and the freedom to run the branch in the right way for our area. Our team knows the grass really is greener here, and that shows in how we look after customers.”
Local Employment and Community Engagement
The opening of the Swindon branch will create 17 roles across sales, yard operations and specialist departments, contributing to employment within the local construction supply sector.
The team has also confirmed plans to support STEP Swindon through donations and fundraising initiatives as part of its community engagement programme.
Scott said:
“We’re part of this community and always have been. This branch is about local people serving local people. Creating jobs is just the start – we want to be involved in local events, fundraising and anything that helps support the area.”
Damien summed it up:
“Our goal is simple. Give customers the best service, the best product offering and the best team in the area. If we do that, the rest looks after itself.”
