Heidelberg Materials produces one of the broadest ranges of packed products in the industry, offering lower carbon cement and concrete as well as base and decorative aggregates. It also provides its customers with high levels of service, training and business advice and is committed to helping them reach their net zero carbon ambitions.

Last year it rebranded from Hanson to Heidelberg Materials and its packaging has changed to reflect this. Product names remain, but the new packs feature a fresh, modern look which takes its visual cues from the previous design to ensure a smooth transition.

It has provided merchants with eye-catching POS material that clearly shows the old and new designs and highlights that the products are still the same high-quality customers expect.

The company is committed to reducing carbon emissions at every stage of its business: from the manufacturing process and packaging through to delivery.

It already offers merchants lower carbon products including Low Carbon cement and 40N concrete, which includes Regen GGBS, a readily available lower carbon cement replacement. And, all our packed grey cements, like General Purpose cement, are CEM II A-LL blends, meaning they contain less clinker and more limestone, reducing embodied CO₂.

“We are also working hard to conserve natural materials, promote the circular economy and decarbonise our products,” said Andy Simpson, Packed Products Director at Heidelberg Materials UK.

“As part of this, we announced the creation of a new recycling business line in 2023 which will allow us to provide the most sustainable products to our customers through circularity and innovation to enable building more, with less.

“Packaging is another area where we have made significant progress to reduce the amount of plastic and develop more sustainable options. Some of our heavy building products, particularly those that contain aggregates with sharp edges, are harder to supply without plastic packaging and, where this is the case, we have increased the recycled content of the bags while ensuring they are still 100 per cent recyclable.

“But, for other products, a stronger paper alternative can be just as effective. Multicem, for example, is available in a Tough Bag, which contains 95 per cent less plastic and has been independently tested and proved to be the toughest paper cement bag in the market – 50 per cent stronger than any other – meaning it’s still highly resistant to splits and tears.”

The company has also invested in low emission and low carbon vehicles and gives merchants the flexibility to choose what products – and how much of them – they order to help maximise stock efficiencies and sales by offering mixed product deliveries. These can be provided from core lines such as Multicem and PostFix, as well as base aggregates, enabling merchants to order a full load, minimising vehicle miles.
