The Federation of Master Builders Scotland (FMB) has brokered a new supply partnership between insulation manufacturer Sisalwool and merchant MKM Airdrie, bringing natural fibre insulation products into local merchant stock.
The agreement will see MKM Airdrie stock Sisalwool’s range of insulation batts, loft roll and breathable low-carbon products for new-build, retrofit and conservation projects.
The partnership is intended to improve access to insulation products for small and medium-sized construction firms working across Scotland, particularly those involved in heritage and retrofit projects where material selection can present specific challenges.
Insulation products target retrofit and conservation work
Sisalwool’s range is based on natural fibre insulation and includes products designed for use in new-build, retrofit and conservation applications.
The move means local builders will be able to source the products directly through MKM Airdrie rather than ordering them separately and waiting for delivery.
Gordon Nelson, Director of FMB Scotland, said: “The FMB exists to help small, medium and micro building firms grow, and part of that is making the right products easy to get hold of. Bringing Sisalwool and MKM Airdrie together means Scottish builders can walk into their local merchant and pick up insulation that works in the heritage and retrofit projects so many of them are being asked to take on.
“Scotland’s builders are being asked to deliver warmer, greener homes, often in older buildings, and they need materials that can do that job. I’d encourage any local builder to come along on the 27th; come for the breakfast rolls, stay to see the product, and have a word with us about what FMB membership can do for your business.”

The partnership will be marked by a Builders’ Breakfast at MKM Airdrie on 27 August, where contractors, joiners, architects and specifiers will be able to view the Sisalwool products and discuss their use in construction projects.
The FMB said connecting its members with suppliers, merchants and manufacturers forms part of its work supporting small and medium-sized building firms across Scotland.
