Data Yard was launched in 2025 by the Builders Merchants Federation and NMBS as a centralised, industry-governed system designed to improve the accuracy and reliability of product data used by merchants, suppliers and wider construction stakeholders.
The platform is being adopted across the building materials sector at a time when contractors and manufacturers are under increasing pressure to provide verified, accessible and up-to-date product information in line with regulatory expectations.

Growing adoption across building materials supply chain
The platform’s early uptake has been driven by suppliers seeking to improve data consistency and reduce duplication across multiple systems and channels.
Data Yard is also being positioned as a response to increasing regulatory requirements affecting the construction sector, including the Building Safety Act and the “Golden Thread” approach to information management.
Gareth Thomas, Managing Director of Data Yard, said: “Data Yard is helping to shape the future of product data in our industry.
“We’re seeing real momentum from suppliers and merchants who recognise that better data means better business as well as a more accountable and safer built environment.
“The platform is creating a more connected and transparent data ecosystem, enabling seamless exchange and establishing a true ‘single source of truth’ for the sector.”
Construction data platform links compliance and commercial performance
Industry users of the platform are using it to centralise product information and control how data is shared with merchants, buying groups and other supply chain partners.
Suppliers retain control over their data within the system, including permissions for access, viewing and downloading.
The platform has been developed to support both operational efficiency and compliance requirements, reflecting growing expectations around traceability and accountability in construction product data.
Pricing deadline announced as early adoption grows
With a pricing change scheduled for the end of June, suppliers are being encouraged to register under current terms, which include fixed pricing for a three-year period.
The system has been positioned as a long-term digital infrastructure tool for the sector, with emphasis on reducing inefficiencies in product data management.
Product data increasingly linked to compliance and risk
The development of Data Yard reflects wider industry recognition that product data is now central to compliance and risk management, particularly as digital information requirements continue to increase across construction procurement and delivery.
The platform is expected to expand further as more suppliers join and early adopters share feedback through planned case studies and testimonials in the coming weeks.
