Cemex is a multinational building materials company formed in Mexico in 1906. Its global headquarters are in the city of San Pedro, near Monterrey, in the northeastern state of Nuevo Leon. It manufactures and distributes cement, readymix concrete and aggregates in more than 50 countries and has a global workforce of around 40,000 employees worldwide.
Our UK business employs around 2,000 people across the country and is part of our wider EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Asia and Africa) region.
Our operations in the UK can be traced back to 1826 when a small family business owned by Thomas Walker and his son George Walker started producing lime mortar in Rugby. This business was eventually acquired by RMC in the year 2000. RMC’s own history dates back to the 1930’s when Kjeld Ammentorp is credited with founding the organisation and establishing the UK’s first Readymix Concrete Plant. RMC were in turn acquired by Cemex in 2005.
