Travis Perkins Hire senior leaders took on branch duties at its Bristol St Philips site after the branch team won an internal competition that earned colleagues a day off.
Managing Director Ian Sharman-Jones and members of the senior leadership team spent a day carrying out operational duties at the branch, including serving customers in person and by phone, testing equipment and cleaning machinery.
The initiative followed a competition across Travis Perkins Hire’s branch network, which comprises more than 270 locations.

Teams were challenged to complete 25 tasks over the course of a month as part of a bingo-style competition.
The Bristol St Philips and Aylesbury branches completed the challenge first and secured the main prize, while more than 30 other branches received vouchers.
Ian Sharman-Jones said: “It was a real pleasure for myself and other members of the SLT to give our successful colleagues a day off and to step up and do important work in the branch.
“I used to work in branches so it was enjoyable to roll back the years and carry out some of the tasks our colleagues do so brilliantly every day.
“The initiative showed what great jobs all our colleagues do to carry out the tasks which need to be done yet still deliver the outstanding customer service we are renowned for.
“The bingo card competition was a fantastic initiative – branches were really engaged with it and it created a great buzz.”
