The Institute of Builders Merchants has confirmed details for its third annual conference, including the venue, host and theme for the 2026 event.

The conference will take place on 15 October 2026 at the JCB World Headquarters and is open to both members and non-members.

This year’s theme, “Thrive: How to advance your career in Merchanting”, will focus on professional development and the skills required to support the future of the building materials sector.

As part of the registration process, attendees will be asked to identify the single most important skill for the future of merchanting, with responses set to be addressed during the conference programme.

Marianna Peet, Learning & Development and Apprenticeship Manager at the Builders Merchants Federation, said: “This promises to be a fantastic day for everyone interested in career development and the future direction of merchanting. Delegates will also have the opportunity to attend a post-conference dinner and network with colleagues.”

John Newcomb, Chairman of the IoBM Management Committee, added: “The IoBM Conference is a unique opportunity for members and those considering membership to come together, share ideas and focus on the skills that will drive our industry forward. I look forward to welcoming delegates to what promises to be an inspiring and valuable event.”

Event host and format

The event will be hosted by Jason Mohammad, known for presenting sports programmes including Match of the Day, MOTD2 and Final Score.

Attendance is free for IoBM members, with a fee applicable for non-members. The conference will also include optional networking opportunities, including a post-event dinner.

Industry context

The conference forms part of wider efforts across the merchanting sector to address skills development, workforce progression and long-term talent retention, as businesses respond to ongoing changes in construction demand and supply chain requirements.
