Alliance Tool Hire has opened a new depot in Newport following a £1.6m investment, marking its first expansion into South Wales and continuing a wider growth programme across the UK construction rental market.
The new facility is located on Queensway Meadows Industrial Estate and becomes the company’s third depot opening in three years, following acquisitions in Bath in 2023 and Bristol in 2024.
The expansion has also included the recruitment of four experienced staff from a competitor that recently exited the local market, with the team led by Depot Manager Martin Fanthorpe. The business is also recruiting additional staff as it establishes operations in the region.

The company has confirmed investment in a modern fleet of power tools, access equipment and surveying equipment to support demand from local contractors and construction firms.
Alliance Tool Hire also operates a dedicated lifting division, staffed by LEEA-qualified engineers, providing inspection, testing and equipment management services supported by bespoke software systems.
The company supplies equipment to a range of construction sectors including brickwork, fit-out, demolition, drylining, housebuilding, roofing and metal fabrication.
Growth strategy focused on regional construction markets
The Newport depot forms part of a wider expansion strategy targeting regional construction activity and supply chain demand.
Beth Peters, CEO of Alliance Tool Hire, said: “We are launching in Newport to take advantage of a dynamic and growing Welsh construction market, and we will bring a wide array of premium products and an exceptional level of service that will help local construction businesses work more effectively.

In the last few years the area has seen a sharp reduction in national tool hire suppliers who have either scaled down or completely exited the Welsh market, but we see true promise and a platform to not only establish ourselves but look at further expansion. Our £1.6m investment over five years is just the start.”
Depot Manager Martin Fanthorpe, who leads the Newport team, highlighted continuity and customer service as key priorities for the new operation.
He said: “Me and the team are delighted to join Alliance and have their support and investment in a completely new depot.
Our focus is on service and doing right by all our customers. We really can’t wait to see all our old and new partners in the construction sector so they can see how we can help them work more effectively.”
UK depot network and customer base
With the addition of Newport, Alliance Tool Hire now operates ten depots across Bath, Bristol, Salisbury, Poole, London and the South East, including Kent and Gatwick.
The company reports that more than 80% of its customer base consists of repeat business, with depot teams working directly with contractors to match equipment to project requirements while meeting health, safety and sustainability standards.
